Knightsbridge School extends offering to GCSE

We are thrilled to announce that from September 2020 we will be extending our excellent education to provide phenomenal teaching for pupils through to 16 years old.

“We opened Knightsbridge School to address a shortage of pre-prep and prep places in central London”, says Founder and Principal Magoo Giles.

“But over the years we’ve had many conversations with parents who have expressed their disappointment their child couldn’t stay on a Knightsbridge school past 13 years.

“We decided that it was time to address this issue, and so from September 2020, we will begin classes for year 9, with years 10 and 11 to follow in 2021 and 2022. This means that students will be able to stay at Knightsbridge School from when they join until they take their GCSEs at 16. This step fulfils the ambition of the school to provide an all-through education which we are now able to achieve.”

A new building in South Kensington will allow for growth into the senior school, with plans to have classrooms ready to use from summer term 2020.

Shona Colaco, Head, is responsible for planning this exciting extension, a role she feels well equipped for having already completed the same task in her previous role. She says that the excitement from students and parents has been matched by that of the staff, many of whom, are qualified and experienced in teaching through to GCSE, and are eager to develop the new curriculum. A working party has already been set up for teachers to look for the shape of the school’s provision moving forward and to identify aspects of Knightsbridge School which should be retained as the school grows.

It’s not only the staff who will have an active role to play in shaping the senior school however. In the second half of term, students in years 6 and 7 will be invited to look at the current uniform and feedback what they like about it, what they’d like to change, and what they see themselves wearing with pride at age 16.

In addition to focusing on the new curriculum, the school has also turned its attention to Knightsbridge School’s extra-curricular offering, and will ensure there is an equally exciting provision for the oldest students.

“At the centre of Knightsbridge School is the long held belief that children have a better quality of educational experience, and life, when they can retain a broad range of experiences and interests”, says Magoo.

“As a result, a strong focus will be retained on Life Skills and Perspectives and our careers and guest speaker’s programmes will be extended.”

We are so excited about all the new developments happening within the school and would love to tell you more about it. Please get in touch to book a visit and come and see our happy, vibrant school.
