At Knightsbridge School, our Early Years provision is built upon the Statutory Framework for the EYFS (2024). We believe that a child’s first steps in education should be filled with wonder, providing a secure foundation that inspires a lifelong love of learning.
Using the Birth to 5 Matters guidance, we focus on nurturing the whole child. Our curriculum is designed around the seven areas of learning, starting with the three Prime Areas that underpin all future development:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
As children grow in confidence, these areas support their progress in the four Specific Areas: Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design.
Learning Through Discovery
We champion an open-ended, play-based approach where teachers act as expert facilitators. By following each child’s unique interests and pace, we foster the Characteristics of Effective Learning, ensuring pupils become resilient, creative, and critical thinkers. These early experiences do more than just teach—they build the social fluency and cognitive skills that benefit children throughout their entire school career.
A World Beyond the Classroom
Education at Knightsbridge School extends well beyond the classroom walls. Our Reception pupils enjoy a rich variety of specialist-led sessions and outdoor adventures, including:
- Specialist Subjects: French or Spanish, Tennis, Dance, Drama, Music, and Gymnastics.
- Forest School: A dedicated six-week immersive block held annually.
- Local Exploration: Weekly trips to London’s iconic green spaces, such as Battersea Park and Hyde Park, via our private minibus service.
