Junior Performing Arts

The Performing Arts team works with an ethos that every child deserves their ‘moment’ – every student will have a chance to shine in the productions and showcases, however big or small it’s about working together to produce something to be proud of. We truly believe every child has the talent and scope to achieve extraordinary things. Collaboration through Music, Drama and Dance creates the perfect platform to combine these skills and our teachers have professional experience both as performers, as well as directing and choreographing.

Year 1 and 2 perform in the Winter Showcase, Years 3, 4 and 5 perform in the Spring Showcase. Each year, we look forward to the Y6 production which is a culmination of all of the incredible progress that takes place throughout the Junior school. Previous Y6 productions have included Oliver Jr, High School Musical Jr, Guys and Dolls Jr, and Annie Jr!
You can see our cast of 2022 in Annie here.

Our children are taught to work in a professional way and engage with positive industry experiences including working with full-scale bespoke sets, dedicated rehearsal time, costume and expert lighting design.

Interhouse Performing Arts Competition

Every other year, we hold the Interhouse Performing Arts Competition. Students from across the whole school are invited to audition in the five categories:

  • Singing
  • Instrumental Music
  • Drama
  • Dance
  • Duets

Finalists are chosen for the live performance in the Spring Term to very special guest judges.

KS Has Got Talent

Every other year, our students audition and compete in KS Has Got Talent and always wow us with their very entertaining performances! From magicians to rollerblading flute players, we have seen it all and can’t wait for the next show in 2023!

Drama Company

We open auditions to all students in Y5-7 for a space in the Drama Company. 15 exceptional actors get selected for their shown potential in acting and work together to produce a performance that takes place in the summer term at The Chelsea Theatre. Recent performances include A Twelfth Night and the incredibly successful A Midsummer Night’s Dream by our cast of 2022!

Students also work on the Trinity Drama Syllabus and prepare for potential Acting Scholarships at KS and other future school options.

This group annually prepares innovative pieces for ‘Poetry Together’. You can watch the most recent performances of ‘Skimbleshanks, the Railway Cat’ by T.S. Elliot and ‘The Crown’ by Carol Anne Duffy featuring two special guests from the Royal Hospital Chelsea here. In 2021 the Drama Company performed their bespoke performance of ‘The Queen’ in front of HRH Duchess of Cornwall.

Musical Theatre Company

We open auditions to all students in Y5-7 for a space in the Musical Theatre company. 15 students get selected for their shown potential in Musical Theatre including singing, dancing and acting. This group works to produce a group piece following the IDTA syllabus as well as their hit show which takes place in the summer term at the Chelsea Theatre.

Show Choir

Show choir is open to all students from Y4- Y11. The show choir has a busy schedule throughout the year but particularly in the Autumn term where they perform in the KS Remembrance Service, KS Carol Service and out and about in the Knightsbridge Community sharing Christmas cheer for all to hear! Highlights include singing in the St Paul’s Knightsbridge Foundation Carol Service and entertaining guests at local prestigious hotels including The Carlton Tower Jumeirah and The Berkeley. In the Spring and Summer they build their repertoire ready for whole school events.
