Reception at Knightsbridge

Ages 4-5

The Reception year at Knightsbridge School is a milestone moment. It is the bridge between the discovery of the early years and the transition into the Junior school. As a leading London private school, our mission is to build the vital foundations of learning, ensuring every child transitions from a curious toddler into a confident, inquisitive pupil with a genuine love for school. Whether your child is moving up from our own Nursery or joining us for the very first time, we ensure the experience is smooth, supportive, and exciting.

The Classroom as the ‘Third Practitioner’

Our Reception classrooms are not just rooms, they are designed as additional learning tools. Set up to be warm, nurturing, and stimulating, the layout acts as a “Third Practitioner”. Resources are positioned to encourage children to take the lead in their own education.

  • Child-Led Discovery: We foster independence by allowing children to pursue their own ideas and make choices, while our educators provide the framework to turn those choices into learning moments.

  • Specialist Integration: Children continue to enjoy our rich specialist timetable, enjoying sports in local green spaces such as Holland Park and Burton Court and building confidence in the Arts as they perform on stage in their Winter plays.

  • Enrichment Beyond the Classroom: As a private school situated in the heart of Central London, we make the most of our location to provide our students with exceptional enrichment opportunities. Our pupils go on several educational visits each term, bringing their learning to life.

A Personalised Learning Journey

We don’t believe in a “one size fits all” education. At Knightsbridge, we see your child as a unique individual with distinct skills, interests, and ideas, providing the high-quality, tailored attention expected of a top London private school.

  • Observation-Led Planning: We carefully observe each child’s spontaneous access to learning. These insights allow us to tailor day-to-day experiences to their specific well-being and developmental needs.

  • Digital Learning Journeys: We document this progress in a beautiful, personalised Learning Journey. Shared with parents at the end of each full term, this digital story captures their academic progress, social interactions, and amazing achievements that make the Reception year so special.

The Next Step

By the end of Reception, a KS student is more than just “school-ready.” They are independent thinkers who are comfortable and confident in their environment, have build strong academic foundations, and are eager to step into Year 1.
