This week, we were immensely proud to see Year 8 students Adam and Oscar represent our school at the IAPS Debating Competition, hosted by Newton Prep. This event marked a significant milestone, being the first such competition held in London in over a decade – a revival we are delighted to be part of.
The calibre of debate was exceptional. Adam and Oscar navigated complex, high-stakes motions with confidence, exploring the preservation of historical British landmarks and the controversial proposal to ban social media for those under 16. Their ability to deliver sharp, articulate rebuttals while maintaining poise under pressure was a testament to the critical thinking skills we strive to cultivate in the classroom.
Perhaps most impressive was their collaborative spirit. Demonstrating true sportsmanship, the boys formed a formidable partnership with students from other schools, ultimately advancing to compete for the Plate Trophy alongside Thomas’s.
Beyond the silverware, this was an invaluable experience in advocacy and intellectual agility. Adam and Oscar’s performance reminds us that our students are not merely learning about the world – they are prepared to debate, define, and shape its future.
Congratulations to both for a riveting and inspiring display!
