Key Skills Week 2025: Developing the Whole Child, from Resilience to Empathy.

Posted: 24th October 2025

This week, Knightsbridge School ran its annual ‘Key Skills’ Week for pupils in Year 1-6, filled with activities dedicated to providing our children with opportunities and enrichment. At Knightsbridge, we are committed to providing a well-rounded education, and are proud to develop happy, confident children. We encourage each pupil to sharpen and pursue their own passion, and we value their individual skills and talents. Key Skills Week is an expression of just this, providing enrichment beyond the curriculum and learning skills that they can take forward with them for life.

The children participated in a number of practical workshops focused on essential life skills and resilience – crucial in our busy and changing world:

  • First Aid Training: Pupils learned how to respond calmly in an emergency, including the confidence to call 999.
  • Empowerment Through Self-Defence: Taught by expert external instructors, these sessions focused on personal boundaries and awareness, ensuring our children are capable and confident in managing their personal safety.
  • Public Speaking: An vital life skill, this workshop sharpened the ability to articulate thoughts clearly and persuasively in a confident manner.

Our commitment to raising happy, well-rounded pupils is anchored in a values-led education guided by our KS Code. A significant portion of the week was dedicated to exploring character and social responsibility. Principal Mr. Magoo led two sessions – ‘The Battlebox Workshops’ – based on his new book, prompting self-reflection through three core questions: ‘Who Are You?’, ‘What Do You Stand For?’, and ‘How Do You Give Back?’. This highly interactive exercise encouraged pupils to question their peers, build knowledge about others, and actively engage with the KS Code.

The week also provided access to creative skills, where children enjoyed seasonal crafts such as harvest basket making led by Emily from the Royal Hospital Chelsea and creating spooky pop-up halloween houses with Miss Patricia. Mr Fernando led a film masterclass with the children, demonstrating the possibilities of creative careers. The week culminated with the excitement of Zoolab, (featuring tarantulas, giant snails, and snakes!) where children learned about how different creatures survive and adapt in different habitats.

At Knightsbridge School, we pride ourselves on a year-round commitment to this well-rounded approach, supported by our large club offering. By intentionally integrating these Key Skills into the curriculum, we ensure every pupil discovers their true passion and builds the resilience and dedication required not just to succeed, but to truly thrive.
