Our Pickwicks students took part in a seminar on how to be actively anti-racist with Dublin University. Guest speakers included Ahmed El-Habbash who discussed Islamiphopia and Yemi Adenuga who discussed the importance of difficult conversations and building relationships within communities. She discussed unconscious bias and explained that ‘when you’re feeling good in yourself the only thing to do is to infect others with that goodness’. Yemi explained that racist people are people who are unsure within themselves and we can counter this by not being afraid to ask questions and not being ashamed of what you don’t know.
